Description
The Ficus Lyrata, also known as the Fiddle Leaf Plant or Tobacco Plant, is an impressive green houseplant. Its large, green leaves with striking yellow veins are often round or heart-shaped and resemble violets in shape. This unique appearance makes the Fiddle Leaf Plant a real eye-catcher in any interior.
This houseplant originates from West Africa, where it can grow up to twenty metres tall in the wild. The leaves of the Ficus Lyrata can reach a diameter of half a metre. In its natural habitat it grows high in trees, with its aerial roots wrapping around the tree trunks.
The Latin name 'Lyrata' refers to the shape of the leaves, which resemble a lyre, a musical instrument. The nickname 'Tobacco plant' comes from the use of its leaves for wrapping cigars in its native area.
